We have invested heavily, and continue to invest, in our own plant, machinery and equipment in order to increase our capabilities and to drive down hire costs.

MAU’s first rate health, safety and customer satisfaction performance reflects the commitment to continuous improvement shown at all levels of the company. In the relatively short life of MAU, we have built up an excellent reputation.

Simon Maughan

Managing Director

Simon has worked in the gas industry his entire career, and has built up a wealth of sector knowledge and experience. He started at Dewsbury Civil Engineering, working at Enterprise plc and then at Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions Limited in a senior position. Simon has fulfilled roles in both planning and operations. At MAU, he is managing director with overall responsibility for strategy and client management.

Mark Lisgo

Commercial Director

Mark is a lawyer by background. Prior to joining MAU, he spent seven years in the Middle East, first in Abu Dhabi and then in Qatar. Mark spent four and a half years at Qatargas, the largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world. He has built up an in-depth knowledge of gas contracts and the global gas industry in general. His main areas of focus are contractual matters and the development of new revenue streams.

MAU was incorporated in October 2011, by founding shareholders and directors Simon Maughan and Liam Arnold. Simon and Liam, together with the initial workforce of MAU, were previously employed by civil engineering giant Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) changed its model for the provision of gas mains replacement services in 2011, preferring to use smaller local contractors instead of tier one nationals. Rather than accept redundancy or relocation, MAU was formed.  The company went on to successfully tender to become a direct service provider to NGN.

MAU has received numerous awards from NGN.  These include the following:

  • Network Champions team recognition May 2012 – This award was for one of our teams going over and above in terms of the customer service and safety on site.
  • Network Champion individual award May 2013 – An MAU operative was given this award for raising the alarm when he saw a child in danger of falling from a first floor window at a house in Washington.
  • Network Champions team of the month December 2013 – This again was awarded for the team delivering exceptional customer performance on a 3km scheme. Our team received 28 accolades and zero complaints.
  • Construction Services Team of the year 2013 – MAU finished runner up in NGN’s Customer and Safety premier league.
  • Construction Services Team of the year 2014 – MAU finished in first place in NGN’s Customer and Safety premier league.
  • Construction Services Team of the year 2015 – MAU finished runner up in NGN’s Customer and Safety premier.

The company has grown consistently and impressively since incorporation, increasing year on year in terms of turnover, head count, geographical coverage and reputation.
